Welcome to Worship… Juice?

Welcome to Worship Juice,
where we are striving to explore, bring about,
encourage, promote and illuminate
intersections of the Arts and Worship.

For some of us, this is a no-brainer: the two are one. For others, the connection seems to make sense, but we are not quite clear how or why. And for others, well perhaps it is a new, or even controversial idea. No matter where you are on the spectrum, you are welcome to come in, look around and comment. We want to create a safe and interactive space for folks to pose questions, share ideas and experiences, show art, announce events,
even vent (respectfully).

So, why “juice”? Well….

…have you ever had fresh juice? I ‘m not talking about the stuff that comes boxed, frozen, canned or bottled. I don’t mean the jugs of brown, pulpy cider you can pick up at the market come fall, and I’m not even talking about any of those refrigerated “fresh”, not-from-concentrate varieties that we splurge on for special occasions. No, I mean real, raw, the-produce-was-just-on-the-counter-and-now-it’s-in-the-glass fresh. It is intense in flavour, vibrant in colour- bright red, green, orange, even purple- and rich in nutrients. Separated from the insoluble fibre, all that goodness- those essential vitamins and minerals- is easily digested and absorbed straight into the blood stream, instead of being swept out with the chaff. This kind of juice is referred to as living food.

Living juice is cleansing and healing. Unlike much (most?) of what we ingest, it doesn’t drain our bodies: it builds, restores and, ultimately, energizes. It truly feeds us. As amazing as raw, living juice is, it may take some getting used to. The intense, natural flavours can be surprising, even overwhelming at first. And the cleansing properties of many raw juiced vegetables and fruits can cause some discomfort, and bring a new awareness of our bodies- and its functions- that is unpleasant or undesirable. But even so raw, fresh juice is great for us! And if we stay the course It will change us, and we will come to love and crave the intensity and the benefits. I am not saying that this is all we need to live on, but a regular infusion of raw, living juice is a fantastic addition to any diet.

Now, envision inspired Christian worship that goes straight to the heart, soul and mind. Living Worship that is creative and sensory, vibrant and honest. Worship that calls us out of ourselves and into the moment; that opens the eyes of our hearts and the hearts of our eyes to ourselves and the world around us.

Worship Juice is convinced that the Church needs to include the Arts as an integral, intentional component of our worship. Art, and artists, can be raw, rock the soul, stir things up and release things in and around us that may be difficult to see or feel. Art may be uncomfortable, surprising, funny, beautiful, horrifying.

Honest, direct and without pretense, Art goes straight to the heart.

If you crave that kind of Worship and that sort of Faith, then Worship Juice is for you.
